Djembe Drumming as part of a group of drummers, each giving our full attention to the rhythm, each loving our part in the full sound of an ancient African drumming song. Bursting into spontaneous applause and glee when the song ends and we know exactly how each other feels, during the powerful expression and feelings of one, that hitting each beat together brings.
Bringing three or four different rhythms into their place in the overall song. Getting the seemingly simple right, to produce a cacophony of sound that has a life and meaning which is impossible to encounter without each of the drummers “hitting it”.
It’s a wonderful, uplifting
experience. One that is a available to all of us. We have a group of
“beginner drummers” at the moment who have been drumming together for
only 4 2-hour sessions so far and are already whooping with glee after
“hitting it”! We will celebrate with a drumming party at the end of the
8 session course!
The Shadox Drummers are going from strength to strength. We meet weekly in a lovely wooden space in the peace of Shadoxhurst, near Ashford, Kent. We have some members who have drummed together here for getting on a year now, some that have joined us since we started and some very recent members. We drum from 7.00pm to 9.00pm, with a lovely break in the middle for wine and cake! Marvellous! We’re all getting pretty good at our drumming and loving it!

Some of us spent a glorious few days at Drum Camp this summer, in the wilds of Norfolk. A marvellous opportunity to do nothing but drum, dance, eat, laugh and jig to great World music. The weather was good too! Not very much rain at all and plenty of sun. And our tents were excellent! Another group is about to start in Sellindge pretty soon, and maybe another in Canterbury. So, if you want to learn to drum, can drum, can’t drum, fancy having a crack at it, please do get in touch and come along! Well done all you Shadox Drummers!
Want some?
It’s a journey that you can step onto at any place, from never touched a Djembe, to need someone to play with and express yourself. We are looking to get a group together who can gig and a venue that can become a centre for groups and individuals to meet weekly to develop drumming in the east Kent area. Any ideas?
For pleasure, for therapy, for corporate group building, for team building, for fun, drumming for drummings sake. It’s a marvellous thing to do and learn.
